FRITZ FARM PLANNING COMMITTEE report, N&V, Feb. 1981
The Planning Committee met several times during the fall and presented a preliminary report to Council indicating definite trends and directions that have emerged in their planning process. The report is composed of three sections: 1. HOUSES. 2. LAND. 3. BARN.
1. HOUSES
Main House - Short term (1-5 yrs) - lease the main house as soon
as possible but no later than July 1, 1981.
Main House - Long term (beyond 5 yrs) - transpose the house into
a community center thereby eliminating some of the current structures used for this purpose and making them available for sale, thereby generating some of the revenue necessary to maintain such a property.
Cottage - Short term - lease (presently being done).
Cottage - Long term - incorporate into community center.
Garage/Apt. - given the general disrepair and corresponding
costs of renovation as well as the safety hazard, it was recommended that it be demolished (being done).
The time frame recommended above should allow for an additional "total town" planning process to take place including a clearer picture on the population distribution and growth, and the availability of other facilities within the Town (i.e. schools).
2. LAND
It was generally agreed that a master plan of all town facilities be developed to extract the greatest benefit from the FRITZ FARM facility. However, the committee recommended that the perimeter of the farm be developed (ex. exercise course, jogging track, bicycle path, walking paths, park benches, etc.). Perimeter development should not necessarily restrict future development of the interior.
2. BARN
The committee recommended that the BARN be maintained in its entirety and that it should be refurbished and repaired to prevent further deterioration. It is the aim of the committee over the next three months to plan and develop the barn as a central point of the Fritz Farm by having all activities in the Town centralized in the farm area and making the barn the general building for the greatest use of all town's citizens.
The WATERFRONT PROPERTY plans (to be developed as a park) are being completed and it is hoped to begin work in early spring.
Council approved the installation of a fire hydrant to be located in the vicinity of the main buildings on the farm, and also the installation of town water to the two houses, (presently being done).
The committee meets regularly and welcomes any ideas, suggestions and thoughts that Baie d'Urfé residents might have regarding the medium and longrange development of the Fritz Farm.
